    staple upper back motion

why is it that there is no primary motion utlizing the upper back that people use as a guage for their strength.
There are the three, bench, squat, and deadlift that are used as standards, but no upper back technique. You never hear a guy saying, "yo I just pulled 180 on my bent over barbell row thats 10 up from last week. "

because the squat, bench and deadlift are the contested powerlifts so those are the ones that are though to be the "brute strength" lifts.

Also, it is generally understood that inorder to be strong in either of those three exercises and even the olympic lifts (snatch and clean and jerk) you have to have an incredibely strong back.
