red blood cells (erythrocytes) carry oxygen. People who blood dope will draw their red blood cells, store them, and then inject them back in before contest so that more oxygen can be brought to the muscles. Sounds like a good idea but the problem is that blood doping makes your blood very thick and it can cause a lot of strain on the heart.
