Not all of the strings in the spider's web are sticky. The spider knows which are which and they move around by walking on the nonsticky ones.
Thats right. Spiders do produce two entirely different "types" of thread. They use the non sticky threads as spokes to move around their web while they build the proper sticky bits.
A spider pig can't
Spiders do produce an alternating pattern like princess' post suggests but that pattern may vary from spider to spider. Guess this could be kinda like a lock on your house, only you have the key, well maybe only the web's owner knows the pattern. I've seen spiders caught in webs before by the way.
