Should I start working out?
Hello,
Basiclly I wish to join the Royale Marines Commandos when i'm at the age of 18, the basic requirments of joining the RmC is to be very fit and strong and it is highly recomended to start training before you apply. Currently i'm 15 years old and i'm not sure whether to start working out or whether to eat and let my body grow to it's full potential. (I've heard body buidling will stun growth if done at a young age). What age do you recomend I should start working out at ? Thanks for the all advice, Alex. ![]() |

I started exercising at 13 and working out at 16 and it hasn't stunted my growth one bit (im 22 now). So long as you make sure you're eating enough GOOD food, and training properly you should be fine.
Its good you are motivated to improve your health so young. Most people i know that are your age just want to drink and smoke and hang around in carparks. I would read the stickied threads in the training and nutrition section about how to eat and train right. Welcome to the forums, mate

working out DOES NOT stun your growth! as long as your having proper form with your work-out's is all that matters! think of it like this, that 200 pound squat may seem like a lot of stress on your bones and joints and all that but what about when you jump or jump off something think about all the force coming down on you... there's no way it will stun your growth.. i suggest you start working out now.. i started working out at about 5'8-9 in 8th grade and i'm 6'3 now @ 19 years old.. only thing about your height is just your genetics...
highest 1 rep max bench = 300 (now 245)
6'3 - 175 pounds Cutting BF % - 9/24 - 11.4% 11/5 10% |

If you are wanting to try for the Royal Marines you need to be as fit as you possibly can be. I was due to try out but got diagnosed with diabetes 3 months before attending PRTRM.
Concentrate on running for stamina Cicuit training for muscular endurance And lots of swimming too (you do a lot in the water) |

you wont stunt growth as long as you don't do roids ... in that case you bone growth and stuff gets stuffed

Hey Alex,
If I were you, I would start out right now with keeping a proper nutrition and maybe some light weight lifting. Enough to stay in shape now, and to learn a proper form. When you turn 17, I would say go ahead and start doing harder workouts... 1 year is more than enough to get your body into great muscular shape. |

I was also wondering about the same question does lifting heavy weights stun your growth because im only 16 and 5'10....Do you think its ok to squat heavier than your own body weight at this age??

Read the whole thread.
