help

I have just started to get more serious about my workout after about 2 years of throwing up weights and eating whatever. I did a hit program for 2months. Then switched to 5x5 workout and went up in weights. I just started a 4 day split workout. The new routine requires 10-12 and 15-20 reps per set. The problem is I have to drop the weight sometimes -50 pounds from what I was doing on the 5x5 program to get the higher reps. I guess I just don't have the stam. Will this still give me gains or will I loose mass and gain stam only?

I love 5x5's too.Whatever weight iam pushing whether it's in the 6-10 rep range or 12-20 rep range,i always make sure to lift as heavy as i can for that rep range(with proper form of course)so i know iam still getting gains.I dont think you will lose any mass unless you cut back on calories.

You shouldn't be losing mass. But personally I gain nothing in that rep range.

For myself i like to switch routines up every 4 weeks.I like to make sure both types of muscle fibers get a fair share of work.As far as gaining size with 20 reps, everyone is different.Iam doing 12-30 reps to switch things up.And after a few months i still add a little size.

Although it is overly simplified, someone once told me to gain muscle you just have to
1) Eat
2) Lift
THEN
3) Repeat

To be honest, with proper nutrition, as long as you feel the workout in your muscles, and you're truly working them out to their highest potential without pain or injury, you will be doing good work on the muscles and they will grow.
