I recently moved to another city and can't afford a gym membership (loan payments made me literally broke). I continue to use running, pushups, and pullups for my base workout but until I get some money saved for a gym membership, I'm forced to do what I can with very little. Many websites tell you the same thing over and over but I'm looking for a little more variance. I would love some advice, routines, anything that would help me regain my composition and gain some of that weight I worked so hard for in the past. Thanks for the help.
Lots of different ways to vary push-ups. Decline(put your feet up on something) change your hand positions, wider/narrower than normal. Tricep dips with a chair or something. All you can do is look around your house and try to improvise, untill you can afford a gym membership or some home equipment.
Pullup bars are cheap and they work. I bought mine for 20 bucks I think and it's lasted since last year. It's kinda hard to work your back at home without weights, so a bar is a good investment.
Bodyweight training can only take you so far, but its certainly a viable option in the beginning.
What are your goals? Circuits are a great way of making up for the lack of resistance, as are extended reps (4 seconds up, 4 seconds down etc). Isometric holds, plyometrics, mix them in with sprints...
There are many many different ways of doing it.
If you can rig up some chains and some handles with a karabiner (sp?) you can go just about anywhere and throw them over something to do dips/pullups. You can also use the chains as a bit of resistence and that enables you to do other exercises.
