Trouble Shooting Your Squat — Patrick Ward, MS CSCS LMT

Hi there. New to the forums here. I've been working out for many years, and i consider my self somewhat adept in the art.
But just recently I have began working out with my girlfriend (120 lbs 5'5").
She really has no athletic training in her background, which doesn't bother me really, but the main issue I have is her inability to do squats.
It seems to be a lack of strength in the gluteus maximus.
I've been trying to brainstorm ways to assist her in completing the action, or making the muscles involved stronger, but have really no luck.
She can go down to about a 100 degree angle, before she begins to fall back.
any tips would be great, and looking forward to any responses
thanks

Patrick's advise has helped me tremendously in developing my squat form.
There's also some good advice from Ripptoe on proper squatting:
Lumberjack squats are a great training exercise. You can easliy add a calf raise and press to make it into a great compound lift.

Possibly work on weak points, flexibility, and technique.
You can have her do front squats or some other variant in the meantime.
Maybe you could get her in position under the lat machine. You could set the anti-weight amount and pull it down to set her up. After a few workouts with that move to body weight. Or you could assist body weight squats from behind with hands under her arm pits.
