    Strength + weight loss?

Sorry for the stupid newb question.

I've read a lot about working out. I understand getting big and losing weight is impossible to do at the same time.

My question is can I gain strength and lose weight at the same time? This is what I'm planning. I'm going to do weight training (4 day split: chest/tries; back/bis; shoulders; and maybe legs, depending on how this will work in with cardio), and cardio after my weight training 4x/wk. I'm not trying to add a lot of mass at this point, just need to lose the beer belly. What rep range should I be shooting for? I've typically had good results with strength gains at 6-8 reps on most of my compound exercises. Should I be shooting for more reps on each set? Is it worth my time to try to gain strength while creating a calorie deficit?

If it is possible to do this, will the additional strength help with a future bulking cycle?

You can try to gain strength but it won't happen. On a calorie deficit the best you can do is try to keep as much muscle mass and strength as possible while you drop bodyfat.

Retaining as much strength as you can while cutting will help when you are ready to bulk back up.
