Do NOT wale away. You really need to know what you're doing if you're training on the bag. Anyone that has for any amount of time will probably tell you the same. For one you need to make sure you're taped up,properly, and use gloves. Especially if its a new bag. It may be a little different than what you might think, especially if you're totally new. Other wise bloody knuckles and sore(read that injured) wrists are very likely. Take this training as serious as you would any other if you plan on doing it right, efficient and safe. You need to build on it just like you would any other training. If you don't know, seek a pro for some training lessons first, or google and you tube your ass off at the minimum.

i workout on the heavy bag when i dont feel like going to the gym for my hiit in the mornings... i usually start out with left/right jabs at a steady pace for 60 seconds then rest for 15 seconds and repeat 5xs, i then do double front kicks 30 reps each leg at a steady and controlled pace, lastly i jab/cross/round house leg kick for 30 reps each leg.... try to keep your resting below 30 seconds... if your not sweating heavily, have an increased heart rate with a burning back and legs then your cardio is already off the charts!!

I remember clearly in highschool when I saw my friend's brother on the punch bag. He was working it and it was swinging left and right, he had to dodge it and everything. Looked easy. I went up to it, gave it my hardest punch because I wanted it to fall off. It swayed maybe 2cm from my body collapsing on it after I felt the pain in my wrist lol.

I wanna get into boxing though, not as a workout but as a sport. Anyone know any tips/websites I should visit before starting?
Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your meal.

I just joined a boxing gym for kickboxing cardio / boxing conditioning classes to help w/ the cardio aspect of my competition prep. I'm happy that I can survive, and actually pretty well considering my cardio for the last 5 yrs has been long, steady-state cardio on the treadmill or stepmill.

We do a bunch of drills like:

    jab-jab-cross-hook x 5
    + uppercut-hook x 5
    + left roundhouse kick-right roundhouse kick x 5

    then
    jab-cross-jab-cross for 1 minute

    then
any punch you want x 2
    x 3
    x 4 ... until 20
    then
    any punch you want x 19 + 1 kick
    x 18 + 2 kicks
    x 17 + 3 kicks.... until 20 kicks

All of this sort of stuff for 20-30 min.

Then go to (25 pushups + various types of crunches) x 4

I'm a little retarded w/ the punches yet so I work better w/ patterns of punches.

LOL I'm so happy I can even remember these sequences and I just bought my own gloves tonite. Wohoo! Bring on the bag!

Martial arts were designed to be largely used in combat situations. They are extremely physical, and have become more and more fashionable in recent years as a form of competitive sport and a method to keep fit. Though today they are usually connected with Asia, actually there are examples of Martial Arts all over the world.
