    Only for the weak??

"If you have particularly sensitive skin, or if you are a chiropractor, concert pianist, or in some other profession which requires that you take special care of your hands, by all means wear gloves. However, I recommend most bodybuilders simply grip the weights with bare hands and let them toughen up and develop calluses. Don't worry about sponges, gloves, and other aids"

Arnold Scharzenegger, The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, page 99, Gloves.

I read this several times, he called me a wu$$y for wearing gloves, but after reading it several times I had to laugh. I think it's an inside joke or he's trying to play those "head" games with his competitors. See the part where he mentions the chiropractor, isn't his best buddy Franco Columbu a chiropractor? LOL.

What do you think, do you prefer to wear gloves? Come to think of it I don't ever recall seeing pictures of Arnold wearing gloves during work-outs.....??

I don't wear gloves, belt, (anytime) or use padding for the bar when I do squats. I think the "feel" is a big part of the workout.

I hate gloves, but I have worn straps before. I find that gloves "makes the bar bigger" and even harder to grip, since your hands have to open more to hold both the glove and the bar.

I've always worn gloves, my hands sweat to much and they don't allow chalk at my gym.
I'd love to not use them but I don't see how they hinder your workout or development so I'll keep wearing them.

Find the sweet spot on your traps, dont put the squat bar on your neck.

I definately don't have anything against belts, I use them, even Ronnie Coleman uses them for stiff legged dead lifts which I did not use them for, but for squats, absofreakinglutely.

Never used gloves, but I have been considering them. I am an artist, and my hands need to be protected. Not this callousy yucky shit!

Truthfully, if they cost too much, I'll suffer without. Callouses are traits of character.
Those who trumpet their sufferings are most deserving of misery.

I wear gloves, and I find they help me a whole lot on lifting heavy stuff like deads. It may be just psychological. I used to not wear gloves... and my hands were rougher. As for the belts, pads, etc. nope... never used them... probably never will. I have a strong lower back.
