Finnaly!, muscle iso in squats
I will try to explain. If anybody has the october NSCA journal this acticle is worth reading. There was a post by nike girl i think about isolating the vastus lateralis (sweep) I referenced her to the old muscle meets the magnet book but that is out of date. Basicaly this new research proves that foot position does not really make a big difference in isolation. It shows that partial squats activate more of the vastus lateralis than any other muscle ( muscles tested were the vastus lateralis, medialis, glutes and hams). The medialis was a close second. Parallel squats hit the vastus lateralis most and the glutes second with hardly and activity from the medialis. full squats cream the glutes. Now on the eccentric movement (down) the outer quad shares the load for partials . medialis is most worked for parralel and full. The hamstrings were most activated during the upward phase of the parallel squat. So basicially partial squats are king for the two main thigh muscles . parallel for outer thigh and butt. and full squats hit he glutes the most. So hit it and let me know how it works.
