    Workout Playlist

I'm working on re-creating my workout playlist for my MP3 player. Looking for any advice on good pump up music for the gym. I mostly listen to Hard Rock (Metallica, Pantera, Godsmack, Disturbed, etc) or Rap with a good beat to make you want to workout.

Any tips on good songs for my playlist would be much appreciated!

search the site bro.. topics such as this one everywhere.. but just because you like Dime-Bag I'll tell you some jams. Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country, Breaking Benjamin - I Will Not Bow, Follow Me, Three Days Grace - There entire new cd is jamming. Rise Against - Savior, Ready to Fall, Prayer of Refugees. Harder music is good ,but you have to find the music in which you relate ,and as far as the rap goes you should turn that down.

This thread was just done like two weeks ago, but who cares...I love talking about old school metal and rock.

I don't listen to music during training, but I do in the mornings before my workouts on weekends. Here's a list of someone seriously badass songs with an intensity that sets the mood and gets a good ambiance going...some of these are more obscure, lesser known songs, but trust me I know intensity with old school tunes:

Exodus: Fabulous Disaster; Changing of the Guard; Like Father Like Son (a long song with about 3/4 slow or mid-tempo, but the two fast verses are really aggressive); Parasite (sick gang vocals in the chorus)

Metallica (of course): Battery (how can it not be in this list?); For Whom the Bell Tolls; Trapped Under Ice; Disposable Heroes; Leper Messiah (just badass....simply badass)

Judas Priest: Rapid Fire; Deliverin' the Goods; Dissident Aggressor; Screaming for Vengeance; Heavy Duty; PAINKILLER!!!! oh and a song from 2005's reunion album Angel of Retribution called "Angel"...it's mostly a solemn, acoustic ballad, but to me it's kind of like a calm before the storm (no pun intended to their song from nostradamus...holy fuck I'm a dork)

Megadeth: Chosen Ones (used to hate that song but now it's fun and actually is kinda fast..you just don't realize it is at first...megadeth does speed in a different way than most thrash bands...their speed is more layered as opposed to just boring blast beats); Killing Is My Business (when the double bass drums kick in at the end of the song you better hold on to something because holy fucking shit is it sick!); Wake Up Dead (a classic!); Take No Prisoners (possibly the sickest riff ever to be heard); Holy Wars...; High Speed Dirt

Testament: Sins of Omission; the Legacy (chill/heavy ballad...also a calm before the storm feel to it....especially suitable for winter workouts after sundown...all about atmosphere); the Formation of Damnation (FAST); Electric Crown; Agony (pleasant combo of genuine thrash riffs with mid-tempo drumming and radio-friendly melody)

    Anthrax: Time; Gridlock; Deathrider

Overkill: Blood and Iron; IRONBOUND (I would argue the best album from any of the original thrash bands since the end of their original classics in 1988-1993); Thanx For Nuthin'; Live Young, Die Free; Elimination; Drunken Wisdom

I find guys like the thrash metal a little more than I do when we start looking at Metallica and branching from that. I prefer stuff w/ some sort of melody so have found myself deep in the late 70s / mid 80s heavy metal such as:

    some old KISS
    DIO
    Iron Maiden
    Judas Priest
    Metal Church
    the non-ballad Scorpions
    etc

    Other stuff:
    Metallica
    some Kid Rock
    Rob Zombie
    some LInkin Park

Damn Sassy, you just keep getting better!

There's plenty of thrash with melody. In fact, all of the major thrash bands expanded their sound to be more techincal and/or progressive. Usually this meant melody. Check out Testament's "The New Order" album from 1988 or Dark Angel's "Time Does Not Heal" from 1992. It's very muscially diverse and sophisiticated -- especially for thrash.

I listen to hard rock/heavy metal when I lift too. I'd add some Drowning Pool in there, maybe some Three Days Grace and some Seether. A specific song I'd recommend to listen to first is Bullets by Creed. That is the first song I listen to on my workout playlist and it just pumps me up so much. It's a perfect first song if you ask me.

Deftones - Minus Blindfold, 7 Words, My Own Summer, Lotion, Diamond Eyes, Rocket Skates, etc.

Chimaira - Let Go, Dead Inside, etc.

Mudvayne - Determined, Dig, IMN, etc.

    Sevendust - TOAB, Crucified, etc.

System of a Down - Suggestions, War?, etc.

Katatonia - Forsken, Onward into Battle, etc.

Stuff like that. I like angry/invigorating music while I lift. I might have some of those songs off, but check out the groups. Darkest Hour and Opeth can be good too.

Try some stuff from Meshuggah too. I started listening to them recently and they make me want to rip apart small animals and eat them.

Try some Sevendust if you havent already. They have really good pump up music. Melodic, but heavy as hell still.
