They should just start designating a certain part of the gym to anyone doing curls, kickbacks, shrugs, tricep extensions, partial squats, rounded back deadlifts, upright row spotter bench press, momentum pullups, "bro" style motivational grunts, 100-set crunches, wrist curls, and, of course, 3-inch leg presses.

I think you hate people like this Phin, especially if they are wearing a Tapout t-shirt.

Hahaha, ya I hate this whole UFC trend.
Well, I don't "hate" people who do this. I do the occassional accessory work where I'll do some isolation -- though I'm dropping those sessions for grip work, lol. There's nothing wrong with curls or whatever, it's just that some people never get out of the mindset that I tend to bash on this board. We all know it well as bro-school.
My brother is trying to get healthier now and start exercising after years of none and smoking a lot. I took him to the gym and he said he was feeling insecure because he doesn't know anything about weightlifting. I said no problem, I'm going to show you a few simple compound lifts, tell you some basics that anyone can understand, and by the end of this session you're going to be smarter than 90% of the people in the gym.

Nothing--and I mean nothing--is cooler than watching someone load up a bar with 45s and then proceed to squat with a 3 inch ROM.
So many cries of inequality stem from one of group
of people doing little or nothing and then bitching
about another group that actually does something
to improve their lives.

Honestly, there are some "powerlifters" who make me laugh every time I see them at the gym.
They walk around in their chucks with their suits on but unstrapped, load up with knee wraps and belts, then proceed to load up a bar and squat to nowhere near parallel.

I have a buddy who suits up like he's going into battle - knee wraps, wrist straps, gloves w/ more wrist wraps, elbow sleeves, big sweatshirt and a belt over it all. And proceeds to do 1/4 ROM hammer strength incline presses w/ 4 plates per side. For effect he also starts the rep by throwing his head back and opening his mouth for a silent scream like Braveheart diving into the fray to defend his clan.
I do curls in the rack on occasion if no one else is in the gym or if people are just using cardio machines. Regardless, I still feel like a bitch when I do it.
I stand at the Smith Machine and set the bar at a height that rests my forearms parallel to the floor. With my arms settled I curl up a rope with weight on it to work my forearms. It's the only time I use that machine.
Is doing forearms on the Smith Machine bad? I'm worried the guys that curl in the squat rack laughing at me.

Squat rack curlers' opinions don't matter.
As for the forearms in the smith, I don't see why that's a big deal. I mean, most of what people use the smith for I think is stupid. The only thing I really approve of is calves, for which it is extremely useful -- although I prefer vertical leg presses for calf work...my calves have taken off once again since I switched to those. So, I say as long as no one is waiting to do calves then if you want to use the smith bar to do your forearms then by all means. You might even frustrate some "squatters" and "benchers" waiting to use it and encourage them to go use the squat rack and actual bench press station. So, this could be a BB'er humanitarian effort, when you think about it
haha I've never seen anyone curling in a squat rack before. That's priceless. Honestly if someone did that at my gym I wouldn't hesitate to stop them in them middle of their set and ask them if they're using the squat rack. They should know better lol.
