    OMFG my back!

Ok, about 4 days ago I was lifting and felt my back twinging on me. Of course I ignored this and ended up pulling a muscle a little. Wasnt too bad and I have been off of it since then. This morning all pain was gone so I went to lift. The very first thing that I picked up (after doing a very nice warmup) an Alien chestburster flew out of my lower left lat. At least thats what it feels like.

I mean I am in serious pain. I am having trouble walking. Even breathing has become a new and exciting activity.

I have had a broken vertebrae and many many back problems, so I know that there really isnt anything anyone can do, but I am supposed to start a cycle on friday. If I stay off of it until then, do you think I will be good to go? I dont want to start pinning until I know I can lift.

    Opinions?

I don't know anything about steroids, though it seems ill advised to start a rigorous training program immediately following a back injury that leaves you struggling to breath.

Training with an injury is the wrong move, not matter what the issue. It only increases the strain, and delays recovery time. If you think you can rest, sleep a lot, eat well and recover for friday, you know your body better then anyone.

Most importantly, I would not lift until you are fully recovered, whether it takes one week or three or more. Over the winter I pulled my upper lat pretty good and, like an idiot, got back in the gym too soon. I ended up re-aggravating my back, drawing out the healing process, and wasting precious time. It was an overall fail, and is so frustrating when you want to be playing sports, being active and living your life without wincing when tying your shoe laces.

I suggest you just start lifting until you've fully recovered. You don't know what other injuries you might get if you would push yourself too much now in your condition.

Yeah, I know the right answer, it just isnt what I wanted to hear. I guess I was hoping that someone would hop in and say "Hey! Just do A/B/C and your back will be better in no time!" Or "Nah, the cycle will straighten you right out". Just sucks bad. Been really looking forward to this, and I would hate to see an injury put me off another month.

Thanks for the responses, and I will just let this thread die since I cant delete it.

Do not start your cycle-go to the doctor and see a specialist. I blew my L3/-L4/ and L4/-L5 a little over a year ago. They can do amazing things these days with surgery. I am functioning at 100% after about 15 months. I tried all the non-surgical methods of rehab, and nothing worked. Same thing for my left knee a few years ago. Sometimes surgery is the only way to go. At the very least get an MRI and find out what's going on.

Things you don't screw around with:

    - back injury
    - shoulder injury
    - knee injury
    - Rosie O'Donnell (she's known to charge)

Seriously man, unless you're a professional body builder, it's not worth the risk. Whenever I get a serious injury (I popped a floating rib free), I take off 100% for two weeks. I want to get in shape, not permanently injure myself.

    The Rosie comment...

But yes I agree. You don't want to screw your back up.

It's difficult to give you an opinion when we don't know what's wrong with your back. There are injuries that hurt like hell but resolve themselves within a week and others that take months to heal. If I were in your shoes though I would certainly hold off with the pinning until a few weeks have gone by and you can lift comfortably. You don't want to shoot only to realize you can't lift. Why not go see a doctor for an Xray or MRI to see where the damage is?

I fractured a vertabrae in a fall a few years back, and when my body compresed it crushed a nerve canal, basically causing some of my back muscles to atrophy and die. Which isnt as horrible as it sounds, as apparently there are like 18 billion sets of muscles back there, which I have worked slowly at to take over and compensate for the injury. I had 4 surgeries, and while my verts are good to go now, I just have a pretty much unending fight with straining muscles that werent really intended to handle the weight like they do.

Thanks for the help fellas. I am much better today, and I am just going to be lazy for the next few and see how it goes.

Turns out that being able to breathe really is all that its cracked up to be.

Did you see a doctor? It sounds like a possible rib-related injury (maybe connective tissue)?

Yup, that was one of the things that got broken in my fall. I hit so hard that I snapped 3 ribs (in the back not the front) and damaged all sorts of connective tissue.

Thanks for the well wishes fellas.

Yeah, the injury was bad. And I only fell 4 feet! Landed right on the back of my neck, which compressed my body like a slinky, busted a vert, broke a couple ribs and crushed the nerve. I was laid up for over a year. 4 surgeries later I was up and about and could use my arm again.

I got up to 265lbs, size 42 jean, 30%BF. Wasnt pretty.

Joined this site, and thanks to people like Built, Phineas, Juggs and others, I am a fairly studly 207 as of this morning.

The injury sucked, but hey, I can walk around and pick up my kids, so I got nothin to bitch about!
