    Just noticed that my shoulder started bothering me a few hours after work out, dont recall anything during the workout that may have caused it. Been about 3 weeks and still sore, guess things dont heal as fast the older you get.

    sore joints was always an indicator to me for overtraining.my wrist,elbows and shoulders would start aching with the slightest amount of activity.I dont stop training all together when it happens i just go for lighter weights-less reps and space the workouts a little further apart.

    In addition to what Ramboris indicates, I have read that not sleeping well, muscle soreness stretching out to several days, lack of progress, general irritability are signs. I too am interested in this. I keep hearing that less means more and i just can't to grips with this.

    Holding all else equal, I wonder if training each body part twice a week at 85% as opposed to training each body part at 100% once a week can lead to over training.

    I can relate to the irritability and lack of gains ( just seem to be stalled). Thanks for the input Ill keep researching as well, not sure of the relation to the irritability.

    First of all, you're correct. Those are several of many signs of overtraining.

    Secondly, I don't know that I believe you about those PMs. Ceazur gives plenty of good advice.

    (a) it's been covered many times, but body part training is not only inefficient but itself a good way to overtrain smaller muscle groups;

    (b) this would result in more work for the muscles; and,

    (c) overtraining can result from more than just muscular and/or CNS fatigue; don't forget you can psychologically/emotionally overtrain.
