    bet you know some of these people

    i noticed over the years when it comes to squats, the people that dont do them all got "bad knees"

    where do all these people get bad knees from?

    did they all play ice hockey 20 years or play in the nfl 10 years?

    or just an excuse????

    i say the last one..

    I think that people who don't execute squats when trying to build a big body fall under the following four categories:

    1. Those who simply falsely conclude that training legs (doing squats) is only good for leg development and those are the same people who only want the big upper body and small to moderate sized legs.

    2. Those that are lazy and find any excuse in the book to not do squats to avoid taxing their body. Yes common excuse here is bad knees.

    3. Those who genuinely feel that doing squats is intimidating and will result in injury sooner or later and are convinced that they will do their body more harm than good.

    4. And finally, those with legitimate injuries or health problems to warrent not doing squats.

    Out of the four above I think the vast majority fall under category 1 and 2. I use to fall under category 1 up until I was about 24 when I realized the true benefits of doing squats and deads as a ticket to phenomenal overall body development.

    I was training with a friend for a bit when I started my training and I would always push doing squats and deadlifts. He would do deadlifts cause he says he wants a strong back but when it came to squats (or leg day in general) he would come up with every excuse in the book and always skip out. The main ones were "Oh I went for a big bike ride yesterday so I dont need to go today" or "Im going hiking up Mt Finlayson with my girlfriend sometime this week so I dont need to do legs" or simply "I dont need strong legs for the work I do". My response was usually "pussy is as pussy does". He had a fairly good build before we started training but didnt gain much and I surpassed him easily. Hopefully one day Im jacked and he comes crawling back begging me to train with him again.

    how many yrs you been hitting the iron? iam at 32 and counting except for 6 months never missed. did squats for 25 yrs until i did get wear and tear overuse, and due have bad knees . cant walk for 1st 1/2 hr i wake up, but i can and iam working with 225 now for 5-8 reps its going up but i can leg press like no tomm. i get massive nosebleeds on leg days. so yeah some guys do bs it but alot off guys i know on here due have bad knees and suck it up. i used to do 565 in the squat 1rm i think not any more , so i was not strong in the legs. iam sticking with 225 until i get to 20 reps no bounce and deep in the hole. not everybodys faking. unless you been there youll never know my friend. imho

    I love squats, but my knees are bad. Every time I got close to squatting 400 for reps is when my knees would become injured and I couldn't squat for a few months until the inmjury healed.

    Currently, it hurts pretty bad in the morning. I have to hold onto the banister walking down the stairs in the morning. I have random pulsing pain in my right knee during the day.

    But, lets face it. Football ruined my knees most likely, and I remember that is was lounges, of all things, that fucking my right knee up to the point it is at now. I don't care. I am going to squat until I need knee replacements. I can deal with the pain.

    My pops, Big Ceazur, worked his entire life as a Diesel Mechanic, He has some torn disk, bad knees, bad everything. Has to give himself shots of b12 for energy. And he does more than half the people on this board before they take their morning piss.

    you missed the point..
    the point is exercises that are very hard to do, MOST dont do them..
    like i said before.. where is the most dust in a gym?
    on the pullup bars. why?
    cause its ezier to do a lat pulldown.
    just like its ezier to say you have a bad knee than it is to get under a bar and squat..

    oh, there a are a ton of hockey players that have had very bad knees. bobby hull, stan makita, jean beliveau, frank mahavolich, mike bossey, doug harvey, bobby orr, norm ulmann, alex delvechio.. my friend and training partner that was the 6th last guy to get cut from the 1976 olympic team.

    Bobby Orr's knees are in terrible shape, that's what ended his career. On a side note apparently Sydney Crosby squats 5 plates for reps. He looks very skinny and is only 190 pounds, but his legs are very strong!

    Most hockey players have tree trunks for legs and huge asses. A good friend of mine in high school played some pretty high level hockey and all the chicks would laugh about his "bubble butt".

    On a side note, apparently Ovechkin is a beast in the gym. He looks pretty solid to me.

    I have yet to see anyone else squat at my gym. The leg press sure gets the hell used out of it, though. More than a German hooker on coupon day.

    or becuase they try and overdevelope their quads and don't have balance between that and their hams so theirs constant pulling on the knee joint.
    I agree if you did squats you wouldn't have this problem.

    Oh yah, that doesn't surprise me at all the way ovechkin throws everyone around on the ice. It's rare to see such a strong power foward with such finesse. Crosby or Ovechkin? :

    I agree, especially if you do high bar squat, leg extentsions, and then leg curls. I always try to do more ham work than quad work, same with back and chest.

    Let's face it, a lot of people are intimidated by the thought of putting themselves under a weight and squatting it down. It's not the most comforting thought, especially for the novice lifter.

    Then you have the idiots who run around with completely imbalanced bodies that are severely lacking in PC development simply because they think it looks cool to have skinny legs and a huge chest.

    I've played ice hockey most of my life and have messed up both knees and I still love to squat. I actually have fewer problems with my knees than I did before. Just use proper form, don't get stupid, and quit crying and squat.

    You don't have to do the 400 squat for it to be effective. I know it s a good psychological number though.

    I still have scar tissue on my left patellar tendon from lunges about 12 years ago.

    I can do a 500 pound squat with the form the other guys in my gym are doing it. Properly probably 250+ pounds.

    If it hurts, don't go too heavy; go light.

    If your glutes are not strong, it puts pressure on your knees. The stronger your glutes, the less pressure on your knees. anyone agree?
