    Exercises At Home

Having 3 young children, it’s not always easy to get to the gym. What are some high cardio, intense workouts that I can do at home (without the need for equipment)?

Burpees. Personally, I go with the push up, but without the jump.

Invest or download the P90X videos, they are pretty intense and require nothing outside of regular household items (with the exception of bands if you don't have a pullup bar).
Just a girl.... Looking for muscles!!

[QUOTE=scout200;2045420]Having 3 young children, it’s not always easy to get to the gym. What are some high cardio, intense workouts that I can do at home (without the need for equipment)?

First, I search craigslist for people in my area selling weights. I found an an olympic bar and 300 lbs for 85$, they had some rust on them but weight is weight, it doesn't have to look pretty.

For intense cardio at home try this routine:

Grab some dumbells, keep it kind of light (15-20) maybe even 10lbs. Raise them to your shoulders so they are up near your ears. Squat slow to a full squat, and with explosive power, jump up, but as you jump extend the weights above your head, as you land go straight back in the squat and repeat. Do this like 15-30 reps.

Grab a jump rope (or jumping jacks) for 1-2min

    repeat dumbell squat jumps

    repeat jump rope

    repeat dumbell squat jumps

done....or you can do some pushups/situps then do another round of this. Truth is you can get creative and bust out a great workout at home in 30-40min.

Plyometrics, perhaps? Tabata training? There's a million posts (give or take a few) on body weight exercises if you look around.

    -bodyweight squats
    -bodyweight deadlifts
    -pushups
-pullups/supine rows anywhere you can grip something
    -burpees
    -jumping jacks
-farmers walks with anything in the house
-military press with anything in the house (hmmm..3 small children...)
    -planks
    -bodyweight calf raises
-dips in between coffee table and couch
-rows with anything in the house
    -step ups onto solid surfaces
-walk up stairs carrying objects, etc..

Be creative. You have any of those water cooler jugs? Fill a couple with sand and you've got make-shift kettlebells. Basically, find any heavy object and push and pull it and yourself in various ways with your upper and lower body.

and plyometrics for the lower body
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

How is it any "dumber" than someone asking how to train in an actual gym -- where it's nothing but fitness equipment with instructions?

    Harsh comment stepaukas.

Kettlebell. Heavy or light. I've been in your position. I had a second child about a year ago and between having a newborn and coaching football, I had 0 time. I substituted some gym time with kettlebell work and was pleased with the results. I didn't gain muscle, but I did get ripped and increased both my anaerobic and aerobic capacity while maintaining muscle.
