    help with rowing..

    Okay Guys..

my shoulders protract terribly.. Right now i'm trying to strengthen my middle traps and rhomboids through the use of a seated row machine. I pull the weight back.. get my shoulders postioned back and down. I hold my scapula there and then continue to rep the weight out.. while maintining a pinch scapula. Is this correct?

    I'm lost

are u using a v bar to row with? if so just sit, let weight guide u back to the start position and lean a little forward with weight as it goes back to stack then pull with your back and squeeze your back together, as you bring the weight to midsection then repeat.

i'm just using a seated row machine. So i don't have to hold my shoulder blades pinched together? just pinch them on the concentric part of the movement? Sit tall chest high.. etc.?

^^^ yeah i know you were using that. just do the best you can. yeah sqeeze your shoulders, back together with end of movement. pause , hold the sqeeze, then repeat. if you cant do that much weight by pausing then just continue the movement. yes chest high. but go forward with the weight towards the " rack" to get a stretch, but not so forward you lose form or pulling something but u got the idea.

ps: dont hold your shoulders together going towards the rack, only going to starting postion.

i think my core needs work and is hindering a lot of my progress... in correcting my shoulder protraction. I'm getting involved in Yoga and hoping this will help me stand taller and maybe that will lead into better execution of exercises. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post. It certainly is appreciated. I'm quite discourage and have battled depression as a result of this.
