Fixed. For future reference, just post the video code (e.g. zm01kBuaHSc).

And yes, that is stupid. Hopefully he was just messing around rather than doing these as part of his program.

I actually saw a trainer "teaching" someone how to do this. I had to just stop and watch. I'd never seen anything like it in my life. On a personal note, I hate it when those stupid balls are laying all over the free weight area. Personal pet peeve.

those types of exercises would only be beneficial for athletes like gymnasts, acrobats, parkour enthusiasts, etc. that type of balance and power could also prove to be useful in some martial arts techniques for the urban environment

The other day we had a surfer come into the gym for a program, and we actually gave him some static squats on an inverted bosu (half ball). Hold parallel for 30 seconds then go to 1/4 and hold for 30 seconds. That is literally the ONLY useful application of these sorts of devices i've encountered in two years.

If you want functional training, get a sandbag and lug it about. If you want core, to some military press and squats. People who say pressing 20lbs on these is more functional and useful than pressing 100lbs standing on the floor is a moron.

Same here. I can't stand it.

As for seeing something like this; if I ever saw this occurring in person I would wait until they were safely off the ball and probably yell at them for putting me and the rest of the gym patrons in jeopardy. GET OFF MY LAWN!

I think gymnasts and acrobats develop plenty of sport-specific balance through their sport. They train to be strong and that includes their stabilizers, but I doubt professional gymnasts squat on a bosu ball.

I've actually heard they do a lot of unilateral work like pistols, split squats, single-leg RDLs, etc.

If I was at this gym, I would have to really fight off the urge of kicking the ball out from underneath him.

What happens when he loses his balance and tosses the bar into someone walking by and it breaks both of that poor guys ankles. he should at least be facing the wall to protect everyone else in the gym.

Yah, he is endangering everyone around him. You ever sees guys to db presses on those balls, what's the deal with that? I'm surprised the ball doesn't pop beneath them.

I loath those fucking balls. They are scattered everywhere, and usually the people using them pick a spot in the gym that is in everyone's way.

didn't say they did it, said they would benefit from it. none of the girls that I know that work in cirque du soleil even train with weights at all but that is not surprise.

Sure they'd benefit from it, but what's the risk? Training is about risk v. reward. The extra benefit you get from adding the bosu ball is small compared to the risk involved from adding that.

Forget breaking your ankles, try falling backwards and landing with your neck on the bar... he'll be doing "ukrainian tounge lifts" christopher reeves style for the rest of his life.
