    Deadlift

When do you guys think it is the best time to perform deadlifts during your back workout?!

First exercise so you have full strength while performing?
After 1st or 2nd exercise to the back is warmed up?
Or after, when your back is tired?

I go with it last otherwise takes too much out of me for the other lifts
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

Every 2nd week I will carb up for a DL-only workout . .fkg smash that shit, probably the only time I will use a belt and straps . . . compulsary warm-ups and post-WO stretching

i do it first in my back workout and then all other heavy lifts. but i think deads are the best for your back so i start with them 1st. but like captn does i do it every 2nd workout. so 1 x e2wks. how much it depends on the gear iam on. but 315 most of the time 275 at others. i do 4 sets x 8-12 but i always warm up with 135lbs to start for 2 warm up sets.

Beings deads are a leg (pull) dominate exercise, lower back work should be treated as an accessory to this core lift.

1st. Just did them tonight. I always warm up on the elliptical for like 5 minutes, light. Then I pop my back on the bench cause I have scoliosis, and I'm old. I'm not going to pre fatigue my lower lumbar then stress it out. No way. I wam up with 135 and just slowly get up to like 405 or so. If I'm bulking I might get up to 450 but I don't go much higher than that. Tonight I did them, then superset Romanians with Glute Ham raises. Not for the weak of heart!

How many years did it take you to get to 405? How many reps?

I've been doing that for a while. Never really did it serious since rather recently years and just feel like 405 is a good work point for me. I'm 34, played football in college, blah blah so you know its just been toyed with over the years. I had a knee scope back then and it's been weak ever since and the scoliosis makes my left leg signals weaker. When I'm doing yoga on a regular basis and going to the chiropractor I feel like I'm 18. hell I pretty much feel like I'm 21 now.

I did two sets of three last night with 405. With about 3 seconds in between. I don't do repped deads. I do them dead with oxygen in between, and don't view them as a rep exercise. With my body I like to make sure I'm good and set and will take any lessened benefits as a wash of keeping everything in good form. I was feeling amped up earlier this year and just repped out about 8 one day. This was ten pounds heavier and eating whatever I liked bulking so I felt like a beast!

weak knees tend to run in my family, or so to speak. My bro had them , my dad had them. Granted it was probably less genetics and more bad maintenance. I mean I guess everyone says they have bad knees at some point right? I do have small knee caps and I don't think this helps!

I usually do them first thing. You want to be physically prepared for deadlifts. I would never train anything heavy before serious deadlifting.

I don't want to compromise my form from being tired from some other previous lifts, the injuries related with deadlifts are often much worse than other exercises. I can be exhausted and still do rows, overhead pressing and arm work without much risk of injury. Deadlifts, not so much

Recently I have been doing deadlifts after speed squats, but the speed squat weight is relatively light and I only do 2-3 reps a set. I actually feel better warmed up for pulling after some dynamic squatting beforehand. Plus it gets me in the "lift fast" mode.

That's really good man, you should try and pull 3 times your bodyweight. Do you use chalk?

nope, im about to order some chalk..i use straps, no way could i pull that without straps..For over a year ive used straps for every back workout, so my grip kinda sucks.

when i go tot shrugs my straps couldnt even hold on to the bar because they were so wet, so im going to use chalk+straps lol

I saw this dude the other day in my gym using chalk+straps+Over-under grip on a smith machine doing shrugs. I can't think of a way too look more ridiculous.

Straps are very popular in my gym, I guess it's a real good way to increase the weight you use. I've always been obssesed with improving my grip so I don't think I will ever use straps.
