An Army of ONE: need BT advice

Okay, I'm changing gears and need your help. I've always trained for size and do very little cardio. I'm going off to Basic Training this fall, and want to be ready. Odds are that some of you have been there, and can help me devise a new training plan.

    Curent schedule:

Tue Shoulders/Chest/tris/ Light Abs & Calves

Thurs Upper Back & Lats/Bis/ Heavy Abs & Calves

    Sat Lower Back/Upper legs/Abs

All are high weight/ low reps (except for warm-up sets, of course)
Steak. It's not just for breakfast anymore.

Well, I haven't been there but from what I understand, you'll be doing alot of cardio so you may want to do some work on that to be ready for it.

I would almost think you would be better off doing a lighter weight and higher weight because of what you'll be doing for Basic training.
    Cool

Do lots of cardio and endurance strength training. Focus your strength training on basic calethetics such as dips, push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, chins, and as I said lots and lots of push-ups.

Also, for your cardio practice jogging on an incline, and when this gets easy work on jogging on an incline with a pack on your back (gradually add weight).

I know many that have been there so this edvice is first hand.

I would do a circuit sty;e of training 3-4 days per week with 48 hour rest between workouts and minimal rest between sets and exercises. Develop a circuit...and perform the circuit 3-4 times...only rest for 60-90 seconds between circuits.

i agree with Fit Freak, the circuit training will help to build up your endurance and put on some muscle at the same time.

You'll also be happy to know that the drill sergeants now have to keep a 3 foot distance b/w themselves and you when yelling....no more "in your face"....guess it has something to do with human rights!

Oops...I just realized I'm speaking of the Cdn military and you're from the US....sorry bro...not sure if it's the same in the states.

    Basic Training

From my experience everyone has experienced different things in basic. Mine was a lot of cardio, and calisthenics, and their favorite the bear crawl. Cardio was my biggest down fall come pt test time I would max out the push ups and sit ups but struggle on the 2 mile run. So my advice is skip the treadmill and hit the road run some sprints during your cardio routine, other than that just run both long and short distances and get used too hills.

Probably the best thing you can do to prepare yourself for basic traing is prepare yourself mentally. Drill sergeants are only there to teach you how to be a soldier in todays army, and to push you to be better. Oh yeah start yelling a lot. But like I said everyones experience is different a lot of it depends on where your going for basic and what your mos will be. Best way to make it through is make a goal for the end of it all, and just think you will have some of the best trained people in the army to help you acheive it.
Well good luck, you have any other questions on basic or military life feel free to ask.

It's been 16 years since I went thru, and what I can recall is alot of running, pushups, situps and DISAPPEARING INTO THE BACKGROUND. Do NOT volunteer for anything. Be as plain and unassuming as you can. Otherwise, you attract attention, and believe me, you do NOT want that. Get a haircut before you go in, if you wear it long. No need to get a buzz (heh, you'll get one anyway), but go in with it short and lacking any fad's.

I wouldn't worry about the body stuff. Get your mind ready. That's the main game in BT.

Good idea. I do not need to make a show for myself... I'm gonna walk out of BT as an E5, anyway, (Nurse).

I will try to yell more during workouts, if that's possable...

I've been running around my block AND NOT LIKING IT! Just shows me where I need to improve.

    Just one question... Bear Crawl?
