    Weak grip with heavy weight.

How can I improve the strength in my grip? When I deadlift or do curls with heavy bb my left hand get to the point where it hurts to hold the bb. Is there anything you recommend to improve my grip strength?

Just one hand? Have you had it checked out?

I have this too; I have a herniated disc that pinches the median nerve running down to my left hand.
Wondering where to start? Confused? "Homework 1" will get you started.

Think you're ready for the "next step"? Take this test.

Do a search on grip strength. There are plenty of threads on this. Gazhole (one of the mods here) loves working on his grip strength. He does all sorts of weird exercises to improve it.

Thanks for the advise guys. Built, I also have a herniated disk. I wonder if it's the cause. I sometimes have a pain radiating down my forearm.

What Built Said! (as usual) I have moderate scoliosis in my lower back. Had it a while. My whole left side of my body is weaker. My hair even grows a little differently on my head. Plus if you've never been to a chiropractor you should go. Pretty much "almost" changed my life. I don't want to use that term too loosely. But when I had my first ever "alignment" my face heated up. I knew it was real. I know there are plenty of wack chiros out there and they get a bad rap like attorneys. I have one now that does ultrasound therapy and massage for like 45 minutes. He used to travel with the olympics and also used to work on Lee Haney. (I'm trying to land an interview, on another note) Of course he said his shoulders used to need work. all of your nerves pretty much branch out from gaps in your spine. If one side is crooked its pinching a nerve to some degree. I noticed about 10 years ago that I suddenly had a limp. After a year or so I wen to the chiro and had x rays. He put them up and said "your spine is as crooked as a Jay Bird" lol

Pinched nerves and disk herniation often occur from compression and bad alignment right? If one were to do pull ups (which also, like deads, requires constant use of finger flexors statically to hang on to bar) this would not only take the weight off the spine, but the weight would actually pull the spine apart a bit. I wonder if this could help relieve some of the pressure on the nerves and help the inter-vertebral disks absorb healthy fluids.

I did a back treatment named "Vax D" that basically decompresses the spine by holding a couple of handles and having a strap attached to your hips and pulling downward. It's supposed to decompress the disks, allowing for more fluid to be absorbed by the disks and thus better recovery. Didn't really work for me but it felt good for a few hours. And costs a fortune to do.

It seems cheaper to just get some ab straps and leg gravity do it, maybe do some ab work to pass the time:

Only cost $30 to buy, probably cheaper if you're a handyman who can make it from industrial webbing from home depo or whatever.

lol...are you actually thinking that your whole back is not going to be contracting in and all around your spine while you do this or pull ups or just about anything else besides lie down on something?

Do a couple of sets of pull-ups while holding onto a towel thrown over the bar.

Works your forearms real good, and improves your grip by quite a bit
