I experienced the same thing a few months aog...when I came back I did it rather slowly for a few weeks...but now I've hit it HARD again. Let your body tell you when you're ready...it will...just listen and be patient. Good luck!
Okay, I've started a new diet, and I am about to start on a new heavy/power/strongman routine.
Noticing that last week, I have been very moody, and very tired, I'm in the middle of a 9-day off break, so that I can recuperate from a bout of what appears to be overtraining.
My question is for the experts (as per usual). When recovering from a bout of overtraining, is it okay to go full out when you go back to the gym? Should I smash into the new routine, or should I take it easy, until my body recovers from the shock of working out again?
Please keep in mind, that this is the first real break I've had from the gym since January. I really started to increase the intensity of my workouts in the last 2-3 months, and especially since I set my new goals.
Thanks in advance.

Searching for the right balance...
Come back slow or you will hurt yourself. Bursitis and tendinitis are very common occurences when you come back from a layoff and try to lift the same weights right away.
Man on a mission!
I agree, go easy for the first two weeks back.

i agree as well. train smart. theres nothing worse then getting a nagging injury to put a hault to your training.

I'm with everyone else. Take two weeks to get back into the groove again.

Cool. It'll be tough for the mind to go easy, but I gots to do what I gots to do! Thanks all!

Yea, it takes a good deal of restraint but it's worth it. After i've taken a break, or have been lifting heavy for a while i like to lighten up the weight and raise the reps for a week or two to give my body a chance to "Activly rest".Originally posted by animal56
