Would a relatively fit person be wasting their time powerwalking for fat loss instead of jogging to lose the last 5-10 pounds. Or is powerwalking the better option for getting rid of some fat. I was thinking of alternating workouts between the two because I don't want to lose conditioning since powerwalking doesn't challenge me aerobically after jogging for years.
The power walking I know of was touted by Steeve Reeves. It involved exagerrated arm swings during the walk to elevate the heart rate. You could even use small weights to increase this affect. Assuming this is all true, I'd say the walking is better for you because it places less stress on your knees and ankles than jogging which is hard on your joints.
On a treadmill, I prefer to walk at 3.0 with a 10-12% incline.
Outside, I prefer to jog because walking, power or otherwise, does not get my heart rate where I need it to be for optimal fat burn.
