    training on old sprained ankle

So about a week or so ago, I slipped on a step and fell. Got a huge bruise on my hip, thats almost gone now......I think I sprained my ankle as well. I did cardio the next day and the day after I trained and ran on it, the day after I about fell when I got out of bed.
I continue to train on it bc its fine, I mean I can walk on it. Its just not the same as it was, it hurts a little when I move it side to side or around in a circle. I did ice it the night of the almost falling in the morning, other than that I haven't done much to take care of it. Am I doing any long term damage? Should I lay off of doing legs for a week? I'd really hate to do that.

do you know any chiropractors that work on ankles? Mine had to pop mine back in place because it was out of alignment. You can tell if your ankle is actually out of alignment by feeling your normal ankle and your bad ankle to see if there are any bone position differences that you notice. That is what my chiro showed me while checking it out before adjustment so that I know what happened.

If it is not a bone out of alignment, then it is something else and you have to let it heal or get an MRI to see if you injured it. If it is a bone out of alignment and you do not get it taken care of, your ankle will not heal right and you can tell or if its a tear. Rolling or twisting anything the wrong way can cause a bone to move around and can even lead to a tear and weaker ankle. Another scary thing is actually injuring the ankle and tearing something (your chiro will not be able to fix a tear). Mine was not a tear, it was just my ankle rolling to the side causing the bone to slide and causing my ankle to swell.

If you are going to see a chiro, I recommend one that works on dancers & ankles. There are a lot of chiros that do not do ankles and are not that good, so you have to ask around, look at reviews, and make sure its the right one.

It could also be a stress fracture. They are nagging and painful but can be walked on and are notoriously difficult to fully heal because of that fact. I had a stress fracture of the right calcaneus early last year. I had to wear a soft stabilizing boot for ~8 weeks. I would opt to have it looked at by an orthopedic M.D. just to be safe. Good luck.

Is it really going to be that big of a deal to take a week off? That's what I'd do...

Are you still experiencing any noticable swelling or bruising or is it just pain?
