My friend is fawking up my workouts

First of all, I'm no noob to training. Secondly, I'm not making excuses here, I know my weights are 100% on me, but when, for example, a good friend of yours comes up to you IMMEDIATELY before your max DL to complain about how some dude was just benching 155, he clearly has to go.
With that being said... my friend used to train with me till August or September then he 'quit'. Now he's back and he thinks it's cool he can lift with me; one of those goddamn new years people I suppose. Since he's been back lifting with me, he's fucking my focus by complaining like some guy is benching 'light' or someone has shitty form, or how this one girl would be hot if she lost like 20lbs, etc. I honestly don't give a shit. Any of you guys ever experience this? How would you approach the situation? I think I'm just gonna tell him "dude you're fucking up my focus, I can't lift with you anymore". He gets butthurt really easy though, so either way I tell him, he's gonna bitch up a storm and go on a rampant tirade.

Well let him. There are lots of guys like that in my gym. You've trained on your own before so theres no reason you shouldn't go back to it.

Agreed, If he don't have the common sence to know that hes messing with your mojo, then he must be told. Your in the gym for one reason and its not to entertain him or coddle him. If he can't dig that, then let him whine like a bitch, just tell him to do it over there, and get an MP3 player and shut him out.

Ya I know that, but he apparently thinks he can't live without me in the gym.

Buy him a dress. He obviously has no dick and is in love with you.

But seriously, just tell the guy how you feel. I don't mean have a serious sit down and hug afterwards, but lay down some ground rules he has to follow if he wants to train with you.

Its not a social. You can shoot the shit afterwards during a post-workout meal. In the gym is time to work. If the words coming out of his mouth aren't "good set", "do you need a spot?" or "PUSH!" he should STFU. If he's chatting he isn't working hard enough himself.

You don't have to be a prick about it, but theres no need to put up with it either. I assume he's an adult with a fully functional brain, he should have no problem comprehending.

I completely agree with Gaz on that. I mean he can hang on your dick after the gym, but in the gym is about getting the most out of the time spent there unless your at planet fitness.... then thats different

Hey, maybe Gazhole's onto something! DO buy him that dress - apparently, it helps!

If you don't want him bitching up a storm I'd tell him he can still lift with you as long as you guys keep the talking down to a minimum. Put in some headphones and blast some music so even if he does try to strike up conversation you won't hear him. No loss there. If he talks that much he'll get sick of lifting with you because you guys don't talk and eventually find someone else or workout alone. I'd try that and if he continues to talk just tell him straight up to get away and you don't like lifting with people so you're going to lift alone from now on. If he still bitches just go off on him.

Unfortunately, he's not just a gym acquaintance but also a 'real life' friend. He does all my car wiring and helps me with builds when I can't do something myself.

i have but i train solo..

if he is bothering you so bad why do you keep working out with him?!

STOP calling him to workout..wear headphones, completely ignore him.. I have told several people at the gym, "I am hear to have a good workout, not to have a good conversation." And then i politely tell them I cannot talk while i am lifting. Man up and tell him to put up or shut up

Lol, I know, I'm a very serious trainer as I plan on hitting every single strongman comp within a 5hr radius, but I'm just saying that I kinda need him in real life and he is easily butthurt and takes offense to everything.

Ya, I agree, that's why it's beyond annoying to me when this guy is there. He's ALWAYS doing that, every day. I think he realized it after I bitched him out; haven't seen him in the gym since and quit asking me when I'm lifting that night, etc.

The only day I like to have someone with me is chest day. Other than that, I'd rather go solo with my Iphone cranked.

Slap on a pair of headphones and start ignoring him. If he asks you why tell him "I dont know what it is but I can't lift squat these days unless I'm constantly pumping myself up with good music" He'll understand and you'll blow him off indirectly
