    calves

When training calves, should one be more focused on lighter weights and the "feel" of the movement in the calves? or maximum weight?.

I've asked people with huge defined calves that say they do not do any training what so ever.

I've also seen guys with not so impressive but super strong calves.

    Is it totally genetics?

I'd say it's a LOT genetics, but wouldn't go so far as to say ALL.

Try every variation of sets and reps and weights and see what works for you. Good luck!

Try hitting them heavy and frequently -- perhaps two or three times a week.

I feel that you should train them the same way as any other body part that you want to gain mass, more is not better

Yah, but the calves and forearms can take a lot more punishment than other muscles.

Because for their size, they're used so much more than most muscles. I find the key to size in them is all three; weight, volume, and frequency.

For calves, you have to figure that every step you take, you're moving your body weight. So right there, for example, is a 225lb lift. And you do that hundreds of times per day, everyday. Wanna grow? Lift 400lbs, sets of 20, 2-3x per week.

    Then ink em.

some retired bodybuilders told me long ago, "they may not grow, but if you 12-15 sets eveytime you workout, preferrably every other day, you will develop deep cuts, which make them look bigger". this takes time. they can be worked everyday, but i know from exp. ive been at this a long time....THEM BITCHES WONT GROW
