    Guideline for estimating weights

Does anybody have any guideline to estimate the weight we should use for a given number of reps? For instance, if we know we can lift x kgs for 10 reps, how do we estimate the weight we should be able to lift for 5 reps, or 3 reps, so on? Is there any formula for calculating this?

depends on what body part im working, shoulders ill just move up in ten pound incriments when using DB's, legs I move up in 180 pound incriments. Gotta play around I think and find out where ya fail at with what weight and adjust accordingly.

Asking another way, if we know our 1RM for an exercise, can we calculate or estimate the weight we should use for 3 reps, or 5 reps, or 12 reps, so on? Can we calculate these by some percentages of 1RM?

It will vary form person to person depending on muscle fiber types. There isn't any kind of rule of thumb for everyone here.
And like Bj said, it will also depend on what muscle your working, again because of slow and fast twitch muscle fibers recruited.
    Cool

hey that sounds better, yeah it's because of the slow and fast twitch muscle fibers, thats what I meant to say (sounds a little more technical )

You can figure some percentages from here:

Great, thanks Mudge! Is this chart applicable to exercises other than bench press? Or at least to basic exercises like squat and deadlift?
