    ...so stupid...PLEASE HELP!

I have been kick’en ass at the gym for the past 4 weeks. Reduced BF form 18% to 14%...and gained 11lbs...ya I know some of it is water...

Tonight at the gym I was doing shrugs and on my last set I went heavy...I bent over to pick up the weight and then I felt a sharp pull/pain in my lower back...

I stood up slowly and felt it...as of now the feeling is more of a stiffness, after sitting for 5, 10, 15 minuets it hurts (for lack of a better word) to stand (1-10 10 being the worst pain…it is a 3-4 so I don’t think it is too bad) , I am slowly stretching it, and a trying not to move too fast..

i left the gym went home took 800 Motrin, and applied Icy-Hot...

help what else should I do...can I keep working out?? I don’t want to loose the momentum...

PLEASE HELP need some REAL advice!

    Thanks…

Nah man don't work out with an injury, lower back is involved in a lot of compound movements so I would just take a break for a few days. It sounds like you just pulled the muscle, shouldn't take too long to recover and you won't loose much, if any, of your gains. And even if you did have to stop for a long time, you'll have muscle memory helping you out.

I recommend you workout but just do some cardio. Cardio should help heat up the muscles which will loosen them up and help repair them a little bit. Also try to do some very gentle and light stretching. Seems like you just pulled a muslce that is going to need a few days to heal.

It's risky business to train with any back pain. Your back will tighten up in most exercises which could make things worse. I'll be honest, I have done the 600mgs of Motrin an hour before the gym when I had lower back pains and I seemed to be OK after a week, BUT I would not recommend it to anyone. You might find that taking a couple days off might be the best option for you, and that would be my recommendation.

I feel your pain bro, and best of luck to whatever you choose to do!

very simple answer, take a week off and if it doesnt heal, see the doc asap. i just went through the same thing but kept going and now im paying for it. got my MRI results today and we're talking about 4 bulging disks. symptoms were exactly the same, first pain and then just stiffness. does it take you a second to stand up straight after sitting down for a couple of minutes?

I've had back surgery, it's not a road you want to go down. Back injuries have a cumulative effect.....see a doctor!

Same thing happened to me while doing the last of a Dead Lift. This helped me (fast forward to 6:20).

Definitely see your doctor first though.
