    burning out all the time

    I'm really trying to go for size and strength now, and I'm a very big fan of burning out. I do it on every exercise and have been for a while. But I was wondering if this is the best way to get size and strength? A typical exercise for me goes like this;

    warm up - 12 reps
    middle set - 8 reps
    last set - 1 or 2 reps, drop the weight in half and burn out.

    What do you guys think?

    I dont have much opinion either way (other than probably not doing it all the time), but someone who probably knows what he's doing (from 140 pounds or something to nearly 300), says that he doesnt' believe in drop sets, but rather rest-pauses. i.e., rest 15 seconds, go again, and then finishes with a 15 second or so negative.

    I've been trying going something more like this lately:

    1st set = 4-6 reps (failure)
    2nd set = 4-6 reps (failure)
    3rd set = 3-5 reps (failure) + drop 10-20lbs and fail withink 3-4 reps

    It feels alot harder and I've been able to move up in weights more than I ever have any other way.

    Know what ya mean bro, that's why I'm a bit hesitant to stray from the burn out. Thought I'd get everyone's input before I did.

    I've been doing the "Rest-Pause" thing that Mudge mentioned lately and I've also found it better than drop sets.

    I find that drop sets don't always "kill" the muscle but rather tire me out and I Fail more because of being exhausted rather than muscle failure.

    Of course it depends on the exercise to.
