What you do you do to compensate for a weak point?
Just curious as to what, if anything, you guys do to try and get a lacking body part to catch up with the rest of you body. This chart gives a rough idea of what good proportions are, and according to it my arms are lacking pretty bad. Ideal Body Measurements for Men
I'm glad you posted this up! After getting drilled in my thread, I decided it was time to bring my legs up and work on symmetry. It's also nice that it's based off a bodybuilder... a friend wanted me to check my BMI, and according to that I'm fat. haha Stuff like that is crap.
On the subject of arms... do you train arms directly?
I had an extended convo with Built in PMs and she told me a few things I might try. I wasn't doing any isolation exercises for tri's or bi's and I think I'm going to start with that. She also mentioned reading up on Hennemens principal of motor recruiting. To be fair, my arms were a weak point before I started training and I have put a little more than an inch on them so far, but I still need to put about another whole inch on them before they are proportional to the rest of me.
Hmmm... I haven't heard of the Hennemens principal, have to look that up.
Whats worked for me is training arms with opposing muscle groups, chest with bis, back with tris. Then they're pretty fresh after you finish your major muscle group.
Also, something that works really well for me is cheating the weight very slightly when training arms. I'm all about good form, but this seems to be the only place that some extra body language helps. For example, if I can curl 30lb DBs with flawless form and 50s pretty solid but with poor form, I'll use 40s. I will do the first 4-6 reps 100% clean, then maybe use a little cheat to get the last 2-3, but also contracting as hard as possible at the top and doing a slow, controlled negative. Hope that helps
I generally train every body part once per week, but when I feel something is lagging I will add a second, 1/2 volume for that muscle later in the week.
