    dieting disturbs my sleep...

    hi guys, just wanted to share something with you;

    i average out eating just 2000 calories a day of quality foods including 3 whey shakes a day (only 2 if i'm not in the gym that day). one of the shakes is at bed time with semi skimmed milk. i know i'm not eating enough to bulk up but that's ok for now because i'm concentrating on cutting.

    anyway, the reason for this post... i've not been sleeping to well at night and tend to wake up at stupid hours. i also get lethargic around mid afternoon so i'm putting this down to my lack of calorie intake? last night i took some casein protein with milk instead of just regular whey and for the first time in weeks i've slept properly and feel refreshed.

    is it just a fluke coincidence or am i onto something here?

    I can't go to sleep on an empty stomach either. I Must have something dense before bed, or else I'll toss and turn. And i've been cutting recently too, and I've woken up almost every night and had a snack around 3-5 am.

    Depending on your training(lifting/cardio)2000cal might be to low.I actually lose weight on 2200cal doing nothing just living.That would answer the afternoon crash and bedtime hunger.Cutting you'll be hungry to a point.Now is it worth being misrable??I've been bulking during week cutting on weekends.Losing fat gaining some muscle doing this.

    Do you take your shake immediately before going to bed? Sometimes I need to wait like 20-30 mins after my shake before going to bed. Also have you heard of melatonin? That sutff has helped me out soo much when trying to fall asleep. I work on the fire dept so I work crazy odd hours. It used to really mess with my sleep on my off days.

    Back when I felt like I needed to take stimulants (i.e., Ripped Fuel, etc.) I would sometimes use 5HTP. (5-Hydroxytryptophan) Knocked me out like a baby.

    mycat, looks like we're going through the same thing but i'm avoiding eating in the middle of the night... not because i don't want too... i just haven't figured out out to turn my downstairs house alarm off without waking every one up lol.

    tubbednova, i have already realised i'm not eating enough thanks but i don't feel miserable about it at all... i don't even feel hungry so it's not like it's a hardship. i'm not sure i could follow your method of bulking in the week and cutting at the weekend. have you been doing this routine long enough to see the results? sounds ominous to me but what do i know?

    superlift, i've only just taking casein a few days ago but i generally took my whey shake about half hour before going to bed so i'm going to continue that with the new stuff. i'm going to google melatonin now to see what that's all about. i prefer to keep things natural if i can so i'll see. thanks for that anyway.

    damayor, trying not to take too many supps so this probably isn't for me but thanks for your input anyways.

    Did drop your carb intake? sleep deprivation and being lethargic are certain side effects when I drop my carbs.
