Do them lighter and work on your form. Heavy weights aren't dangerous if your form is good.
i use to do good mornings every week on leg day. ended up pulling a muscle in my lower back. my question is should i start doing them again? i didn't think i was rounding my back, but i may have been? are they safe to do heavy?
thanks for any advice

thanks!!! my deadlift right now is about 405, and last time i tried good mornings, i was doing them with 225. thats when i hurt my back

I stopped doing good mornings when I tried hyperextensions with a 100lb. plate. Its a much safer, continuous, and isolated movement that I get a better pump from.

Good Mornings > Hypers IMO
OP, watch the vid Built posted about GM form, you're probably doing them slightly wrong, just as I was.

^ that video is perfect. Thats exactly what a good morning should be.
A lot of people try and literally bend forward at the waist with the legs locked in exactly the same position from the waist down. The tendency then is to either have most of the weight going through the toes or doing something funky with your lower back to keep your centre of gravity a little closer.
As you bend at the waist, push your hips backwards. They are literally exactly like an RDL.
