Really I think this would be a better question for your doctor. Definitely don't over do it and personally I would give more than enough time off for rest. Start with something real easy like pushups and go by feel.

rest it completely for a few weeks, judging how you feel do very light, therapeutic weight to contract the muscle group.
Also look into IGF-1 to help speed the recovery of the soft tissue damage.
