    Chest Cramps

    need some advice...

recently I have started getting cramps in between my pecs. Its not necessarily after a chest workout but I have started to step up the weight I lift. the cramps last about 5 minutes and at its worst, have a cold sweat and struggle to catch my breath. its in the centre so can't be my heart.

has this ever happened to anyone else and if you did, what did you do?

Bro from what my doctor has told me the cramps in the chest area are ok until it affects your breathing. If it was me i would go to the hospital just to be on the safe side.

Dude, look at an anatomy book. Your heart is in the center of your chest. See a doctor asap.

If you're going to argue about where you put your hand to feel your pulse in your chest, that would be over your aorta, not your heart. Think about how you were taught to perform CPR. You push on the sternum, not off to the side somewhere.

a common thing for athletes is an enlarged heart from exercising....this causes it to hit the ribcage and cause cramping...this in turn can also cause costochondritis which is inflamation of the ribcage in the sternum area.....here's some more info from the mayo website:
    Costochondritis - MayoClinic.com

Costochondritis (kos-toe-KHON-dri-tis) is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum). It causes sharp pain in the costosternal joint — where your ribs and breastbone are joined by rubbery cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis may mimic that of a heart attack or other heart conditions.
Your doctor might refer to costochondritis by other names, including chest wall pain, costosternal syndrome and costosternal chondrodynia. When the pain of costochondritis is accompanied by swelling, it's referred to as Tietze syndrome.
Most cases of costochondritis have no apparent cause. In these cases, treatment focuses on easing your pain while you wait for costochondritis to improve on its own.

    Symptoms include:

    • Pain and tenderness in the locations where your ribs attach to your breastbone (costosternal joints)
    • Often sharp pain, though also dull and gnawing pain
    • Location often on left side of breastbone, but possible on either side of chest

    Other costochondritis symptoms may include:

    • Pain when taking deep breaths
    • Pain when coughing
    • Difficulty breathing

    When to see a doctor
Make an appointment to see your doctor if self-care measures aren't helping your pain or if your pain is worsening.

You sure it's muscle? I'd get yourself checked out by a doc just in case. Eating bananas helped me with cramps, I use to get brutal ones in my calves at night.
