Neither.....GICH
Everybody wanna be a bodybuilder but dont nobody wanna lift this heavy ass weight. R.C.

Because they are pointless IMO.

Crunches with a dumbell on your chest will work. I avoid situps due to the strain on the back.
i like to mix up decline sit-ups and leg raises laying down.
Bench Squat and Deadlift and even standing military press are more then enough to give you a nice core. You dont need crunches because its proven that there is no exercise that is site specific for burning fat. Lift big, diet and cardio will unveil your hard work from your core exercises!

How about heavy one armed rows. They were really engaging my "core" yesterday.

Forget crunches and situps. Instead of moving your upper body, move your lower body. Hang from a bar by your hands and raise your legs as high as you can. Repeat until things burn. If you really feel the need to move your upper body, do cross body work. Left elbow to right knee, right elbow to left knee. You sit/crunch once and then just alternate elbow/knee touches until it burns.
Or, forget all of them and just do cardio on a rowing machine. Each time you lean back (at about 30 degrees) and then move forward again is like a mini crunch. Maintain 30+ strokes per minute for 30 minutes and you've done 900+ mini crunches.

I used to do crunches with a plate on my chest, but the havoc it reeks on my back is not worth it. I still do crunches and other varying core/ab body weight exercise. Not for burning fat, but for building the muscles. Just by dieting you aren't going to get a mean ripped 6 pack, you still have to work them. Wether it be by general exercises that work your core, or specific ones. I'll tell ya, i lifted today and didn't do any ab specific workouts and my abs hurt more right now than any number of crunches i've done.

I'm pleasantly surprised abs actually matter to someone in hardcore bodybuilding.
neither...abs are ment to stabalize train them that way!!!

Both actually work for me.
Jack knife crunches.
Lie on your back and simultaneously bring your knees to your mid chest. If youre doing it righy you should feel your stomach rip in two

I've been doing P90X / Insanity workouts for about the past 5 months and they both have a 15 minute routine dedicated to abs. The Insanity workout especially focuses on the fact that you are not doing any crunches in the routine as many people do not enjoy them. I found that to be true in my case. I really enjoy the Cardio Abs workout.
Get your body off the ground. In my opinion the best AB results come from intense workouts in which most exercises consist of leg raises, side bends, and planks. There are tons of AB exercises you can do and all of them work. Choosing tons the most effective of those is what gets your stomach shredded. Well, as long as diet is spot on, of course.
Leg raises and planks for the win! They are intended for lower abdominals, but my entire core gets sore while doing them.
