Close grip bench, need some opinions!

basicly i want to isolate my triceps more during this exercise. I understand that probaly you will never be able to fully get rid of chest involvement, however i want to get as close as possible of certain reasons.

i currently bring the bar down and stop 3 or 4 inches before touching my pecs, how far should i bring it down to try and avoid chest involvement?
also thinking about it i could bring the bar down before my nipples to focus more stress on the triceps and shoulders...

    any more advice thanks?

You'll never be able to take the chest completely out of it, but you can try and place more emphasis on the triceps by what you suggested. I bring the bar down in line with my nipple line and stop about 3 inches above my chest. I started using the Smith machine for all my close grip and reverse grip movements and my triceps have improved a lot since then. By the time I get to triceps, my stabilizers are worn out, using the Smith allows me to focus on training triceps, not exhausting already worn out stabilizers.

I like to switch it up and do close grips on the decline bench. I don't use a steep decline, but just a little seems to change the angle up and recruit the triceps nicely.

I like to do mine heavy off of boards to keep it as much tricep as possible. I usually do them after heavy bench day also so Im usually beat up a little bit, so it helps.
I come down to about the nipple, any higher and it seems like more of a JM press. which is ok, actually something you might want to look at too. A little more tricep involvement with those.

yep like anabolic said, use the smith machine. that's what i do. & that is why my triceps are my best muscle & keep your grip not to close but not to far. for me, a little bit under shoulder width works best. Any closer, my wrist starts to hurt & that just takes away from the lift.

Also, if you'd like, you can throw in a bit of decline to take away from the shoulders & add more isolation on the tricep
