    weight lifting after spine surery

    Hi,
My name is Taz. I am due to undergo a 2nd micro lumbar dissectomy on the L5/S1. I had the first surgery in July 2010. I was back to lifting weights and training, 5 months after the surgery. I need some advice, if it would be possible for me to continue with my gym training and lifting weights, post my second surgery. Any advice on this matter would be really welcome.

You're in the wrong place...sorry. All you'll get here is opinion, pretty much useless in your case,if you're smart. You need personal attention, and I'm a fan of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions from doctors...if one can afford it. No need to roll the dice on your back to get your gym rocks off.

a micro discectomy is not a major procedure...you should be able to lift light weights after week 4. I am fused from L2-S1 so I know a little bit about this subject.

I would not comprimise my ultimate recovery from surgery for a mere 5-6 months of weight lifting even if doctors and others told me it's a low-risk thing to do. If you were okay to train 5 months after your first operation with no adverse effects, I would follow the same protocol this time around... really, 5 months is not all that long.
