man if you workout hard enough you wont feel like working that body part for a long time the only thing i would say train twice a week is legs but if ur able to workout a body part 3x a week u sure as hell are not working it hard enough

That would definitely be overtraining for me! I get good results hitting a body part once every 6 days. I train hard and heavy and it really does take me that long to recover.

Overtraining would be better described as an excessive amount of sets executed for a major body part per week. One could train shoulders 2 or 3 times a week by just doing 2 sets for shoulders per workout and you'd be fine while you can overtrain them if you squeeze out 25 sets in one session. If you're doing all the right compound lifts with moderate set ranges and heavy weights every week than training each major muscle group more than twice weekly would probably be overtraining for an average drug free individual. Yet overtraining in many cases has little to do with over exhausting the actual muscle but more to do with over exhausting your CNS, If you're not on AS and you don't give your whole body at least 2 full rest days I would say you run a high risk of overtraining over time.

I believe everyone differant, and learning your body takes time. I train chest 2x wk monday and thur. I tend to do that off and on with differant weak spots. Whatever works for you bro, but i think 3x a wk is to much!

Broz believes that there's no such thing as being overtrained, just undertrained.

"If you got a job as a garbage man and had to pick up heavy cans all day long, the first day would probably be very difficult, possibly almost impossible for some to complete. So what do you do, take three days off and possibly lose your job?

No, you'd take your sore, beaten self to work the next day. You'd mope around and be fatigued, much less energetic than the previous day, but you'd make yourself get through it. Then you'd get home, soak in the tub, take aspirin, etc. The next day would be even worse.

But eventually you'd be running down the street tossing cans around and joking with your coworkers. How did this happen? You forced your body to adapt to the job at hand! If you can't' squat and lift heavy every day you're not overtrained, you're undertrained! Could a random person off the street come to the gym with you and do your exact workout? Probably not, because they're undertrained. Same goes with most lifters when compared to elite athletes."

I think over training is an over used term. Legitimate cases are few and far between. People use it to justify their days off when they are suffering from Cbf.
