Yates rows are lats, the underhand grip is crucial for this in my opinion. By being more upright i feel i can contract my lower lats better as opposed to being more horizontal where i feel my teres and traps taking over. I also run the bar up my legs so there is no hang to incorporate the traps

one of the best back builders i believe, get pulling heavy weight and you'll grow

I love to do them, but have to do them with one hand over and one under or it kills my elbows.

I wear elbow sleeves, do them underhand and started doing them with light weight compared to my other rowing exercises to get the feel. Elbow sleeves keep my elbows from barking and I can now use some pretty good poundages for them.

LOL I gotta a story about those elbows sleeves that you told me about! I'll tell you later. My last set of 10 is usually 275lbs. I'll go lighter and try them underhanded.

awsome i want to get on with these as i dont like conventional rows. erm how to put this .... i used to be quite fat and unfortunately still have the old pot belly ownly its all excess skin LOL so i tried them today and it kinda felt that my pot belly was getting in the way from dragging the bar straight under it haha should i aim to get under it or just drag it till it touches my pot belly, i know its rather graphic lol but hey what you going to do

oh right i have just realised that on the positive part your meant to explode upwards during the contraction so this would sort out my pot belly problem as i would get under it can some one post a good link with the correct form i saw the video with yates doing it but cant find it now
