    Extra Energy?

Hello everyone, I have been working out for a number of years, like most of you have, and occasionally this happens to me, as I am sure it has happened to all of you. So I was wondering what you guys thought.:

Yesterday I was training my back. I usually do 10-12 sets however on this particular day I noticed after 12 sets that I still had a lot of energy and I new that I could get a couple more sets in. So I ended up doing 16 total sets.

I don't feel that this is overtraining since these days of extra energy are few and far between and I want to take advantage of them when they do come up. What do you guys think? Overtraining or NOT?

I do the same...kinda like an instinctive training scheme....I say if you have the gas left in your tank use it...just make sure you don't do it all the time...if you find this happening regularly you may not be expending enough effort on you initial working sets. If that happens you will know...just increase the reps/sets...before you know it you'll feel like passing out after 12 sets!

That almost qualifies as a sentence.

i ALWAYS have great, high energy workouts the day after leg day. I never take the day after legs off. In fact, I usually put my focus day (day containing the muscles that need the most attention) after it. I've been curious if others have experienced the same

by-the-way, i feel like a dumbass replying to a post this old, but maybe he logs his workouts...

I don't think it was overtraining Pat but I would of stopped at 12.

Let me ask you this as it has happened to me also. I usually can tell after a few sets that I'm going to have some extra energy. This to me means that I also have extra strength that I don't normally have. Now it's time to get a spotter and take advantage of that extra energy. I immediately add weight and get in a extra rep or two also. I think this is more beneficial then doing more sets. Now by the time your done with 12 sets, you'll be done for the day.
