    Flat Feet and Running

Hey guys I'm working on cutting right now and usually do a mixture of running and walking every day. I walk more than run because of problems with my feet. I can only run about 3/4 of a mile before my feet start hurting like hell through the arch and front pad area. The pain doesn't usually go away until I walk about another 3/4 of a mile. I was just curious if anyone knows(from experience) of any good insoles for really flat feet. I run with saucony progrid stable cs 2's which are made for flat feet. I would appreciate any input anyone can give me, I would like to be able to run a little farther without foot pain!

    If it matters:

    Thanks in advance

Don't use insoles but I'm guessing dr. scholls are the number one choice in the industry.

These inserts are about $40 or $50 and you can find these machines at many Walmarts and drug stores. Might be an economical solution.

Try a pair of Brooks. I have flat feet that would hurt like a mother. Not anymore...

Do not buy those Dr. Scholls inserts. Go see a podiatrist. I was an athlete and I had incredible foot pain until my parents took me to one. They made custom orthotics for me feet. I never had feet problems again. I am also flat footed, and it made a world of difference.

Good advice but big money too. Not everyone has that kind of cheese at the moment.

I almost tried out the brooks but went with the saucony instead because they were cheaper. I may try the brooks when I go to get new shoes. Will the podiatrist really be that expensive with insurance?

^^^^ Best possible answer!!! It is a bit expensive though. I don't know where your located but usually if you can find a small private shoe store that specializes in running shoes they can help you out very well without the big $$$. Finding one may be difficult, though it's worth a shot.

OP I feel your pain. I am extremely flat footed. I have been running for about 10+ years and I have some advice to give you through years of trial and error.

1 - Go see a podiatrist and ditch the Dr. Scholls crap.
2 - Look into the New Balance 1012. Brooks used to make a KILLER model of the Beast years ago. Now they have pushed it aside for a more "jelly" type sole which IMHO is a piece of shit.
3 - RE-EVALUATE your running cadence. If you are a heel striker, drop that habit and look into a more midfoot strike. I used to strike with my heel for years and after suffering from poor mileage and achy knees and ankles, I looked into "chi" and "pose" running forms. I slowly incorporated these techniques into my training and my mileage has increased with absolutely no pain.
4 - Look into strength training for your lower body and core. Focus on your breathing as it should be mainly abdominal. Using only your chest will only bring in so much oxygen. By using your abdomen, you keep your core tight.

If you need any more help, PM me

My arches fall when I don't wear proper shoes over a long period of time. You need to rebuild your arch, I've been dealing with this my whole life. Build it gradually, your aches will effect your back, something else I've had to deal with. Today, I wear high arch sandles around the house, by feet and back have never been better.
