how about crunches?
What exercies does everyone do for lower back to strengthen it.
Ever since I started hitting the higher weights, my lower back screams at me post workout. It's not a good soreness but one of those "your lifting too much weight and I don't appreciate it" type soreness.
would appreciate any advice.
PS- the only exercise I feel is hitting my lower back are SLDL (I know this is a hamstring exercise but, it also effects the back).
Let me know if this is enough

I do alot of ab work but, just don't feel like I hit the lower back very well. It's like it lags behind the rest of my development. (very frustrating)

deadlifts
Opposite arm/leg lifts over a stability ball...hold each rep for 10-15 seconds.
Also do back extensions with a stability ball...do not hold weight...concentrate on good form and slow/controlled reps.
If done correctly...deadlifts are great too.
Searching for the right balance...
Deadlifts number 1 excercise
Good mornings
Stiff leg deadlifts (knees slightly bent though)
HyperExtensions (Optional: holding a plate across your chest) Also, don't actually HyperExtend. Just come up parallel.
I don't know your routine but there's a very good chance your lower back is being over trained. How many of the below exercises do you do in a week:
Regular Deadlifts
Stiff Legged Deadlifts
Bent over rows
Seated rows
Good mornings
Squats
Standing military press
Standing barbell curls
Standing laterals
Bent over laterals
Do I need to go on?
I think you're getting the picture as to how many different exercise use the lower back muscles directly and also those exercises that use the lower back for stabilization. Not to mention the different movements you do outside the gym. The lower back is probably the most used/abused muscle group in the human body. Give it a week off and see how it feels when you come back. That always works for me.![]()

There was the INCREDIBLE looking blonde at the gym I used to belong to, she'd walk by everytime I was trying to do deadlifts. Man, I don't know how you can do deadlifts with a stiffy, it kept getting in the way of the bar.Originally posted by Mudge Stiffy Deadlifts.![]()
