    barbell without knurling (smooth barbell)

    I have a barbell without knurling, all the way smooth. so is there any disadvantage provided I use chalk (regarding deadlift and other exercsises that need strong grip)? or is knurling neccessary?

    There's no mistaking the advantage when comparing a smooth or worn bar to a real deadlift bar. The knurling greatly improves the grip with or without chalk.

    and what about a tape that has very good traction and sticks forever? ill wrap tha barbell with it and also use chalk

    If you strap up it won't be a problem. I would love a completely smooth bar for grip training specifically, though. Take advantage of it!

    A smooth bar definitely has it's pros and cons. Like Gaz said, it would be amazing for specific grip strength training.

    I don't think I would rely on it fully for deadlifts unless you do always strap in or chalk up. But if you don't have a problem, just grip it and rip it.

    ok so ill wrap it with a tape, it should fit. bandage tape, looks solid, not to rough. + chalk. should be a good combo but who knows, I need to try

    I use hockey tape on all by bars. That white grippy tape one would wrap around a hockey stick
