    mouthpieces?

I bought one last night mostly for basketball when I play. I've heard on baterial infections being caused by mouthpieces and I wanted to the proper steps taken so this doesn't happen or isn't the case with me.

    Anyone were one?

My son wears them for football, he usually has four or five mouth pieces ready for the season. After a game he'll wash the mouth piece and put it in a ziplock, then before the game he'll wash it again. I've never heard of anyone getting a bacterial infection, but I could see how you could if they aren't properly taken cared for.

I wear one for hockey but I don't clean it that often and I have never had a problem.

They're just plastic. You could dip it in listerine or something before use ... but I say don't even think about it.

I had the same mouth guard for like 2 years in hockey ... no probs ...

I never thought about it either. I used the same one for a few years, and don't ever remember washing it, but I probably rinsed it a few times.

You'd stand more of a chance getting an infection from muff diving than you would from playing basketball! Not that I would condone such behavior.

i would have to agree with both these statements. ive had mud and dirt and grass and shit in them and left them in a damp football locker room over night. in 3 years of football ive never actually washed a mouthgard, maybe rinsed off like what freeman said with a hose at breaks but thats it. and i would also condone muff diving!
    back for the first time....
