    warrior dash /spartan race/ tough mudder

    SO, on july 14th, I will be doing a 3.2 mile warrior dash. ive recently completed joe defranco's built like a badass (minus the lower body work, well, most of it lol), its a takeoff of a westside type program, or so ive been told.

    i checked out the workouts listed on the races website, and they look god aweful lol. I am sure i could just do their workouts, but I am afraid i will shrivel up and die. OK, not literally, just looking to see if anyone around here has doen it and what has worked or not worked for them.

    i just registered for the Tough Mudder in Sep. but haven't started the circuits they list on the website. They look pretty freaking brutal though. I've done crossfit WODs that seem weak comparatively.

    Lol that's how I feel. That's also why I chose a race with 6 weeks to prep, not 12, cause its much shorter.

    Good luck bro. All these workouts seem like they'll help towards their specific goal. I'm just having a hard time giving up my 90% weights 10% cardio lifestyle lol

    I have done 2 of these races and the hardest part about them is usually avoiding shin splints and calf fatigue. I had two completely different experiences between both warrior dashes I did. The first one was very run heavy, obstacles were not very difficult or very hard on the muscles mostly running. the second was most obstacle oriented, still had to run but had more climbing and cargo nets. Cardio is a big factor in this race, i haven't seen a really muscular top finisher. But either way its still a fun time and when you finish you get a free beer with your racing chip from your shoe.

    I did a warrior dash last year with a few friends of mine. I doubt all the layouts are the same, but this is my experience with it;

    You have nothing to worry about bro lol. Are you looking to rush through this thing as fast as you possibly can? Well, don't. There are so many people, they will inevitable get in your way. There was even a part of the course that was so thin a max of 2 maybe 3 people could run side by side. So you end up with the funnel effect with everyone backed up waiting to run. This also forces you to take a breather, so don't worry about your cardio.. you wont be balls out the entire time.

    The obstacles are not hard at all, their actually pretty fun. You're so worried about whats next and actually doing the obstacles, that you dont even think about your breathing or being worn out. Like the rope wall, crawling through barrels, jumping over cars, sliding through mud, none of this is hard... which makes it not even feel like a 'race' ya know. Unless your grossly out of shape, you'll be just fine.

    Protip: The pair of shoes your wearing for the event, plan on throwing them away when your done. That is, if you manage to keep 'em on when your running through the thick mud. They will be ruined by the end of it lol.

    Overall, I give it a 6/10. Its one of those things you do one time, and probably wont do again.

    I just did the warrior dash in Ga last month.. I couldnt have explained it better than the post above... Cardio is not a concern with this race..

    Awesome guys.. thanks for the info. I've decided to do te rebel race on july 21st in ny state. The last time I put down a 5k it was a competetive race back in 07, so I look at the distance as doable, but something that needs to be taken seriously. Wasn't really taking into account the 500 man waves. Either way, its a 5k that has 26 freaking obstacles. Most of the distance will be covered while doing an obstacle.

    Oh, and my shoes? I'm gonna spat up a pair of old under armour trail crosstrainers that I'm willing to part with (to spat your kicks is to pretty much tape the shit out of them on your ankles so they don't fall off lol)
