I'm taking a lot of advice on BB from people in here and I think I've learned a lot so far. My goals for my upper body fall inline with I've read in here, but my lower body is a different story. While gaining size and strength in the upper body is very important to me, I am not nearly concerned with the "looks" of my lower body.
Let me explain. Unlike some people in here, I train for athletic purposes ASWELL as visual. Yes, I want to look better, but I also want to be quicker, stronger and more powerful for the sports that I play (basketball, football, softball). As far as the lower body goes, I have a question or two. How effective are "hack" squats in relation to traditional squats? I find them much more comfortable because of a previous lower back injury. As far as power and strength benefits go, what are some differences between the two? What are some other exercises that may be beneficial? Please list sets and reps if possible, that would be greatly appreciated. Any type of advice would be helpful, thanks. |

It's still important to have a balanced physique, meaning you need to develop and strengthen your legs along with your upper body.
Hack squats are okay, but nothing compares to a traditional barbell squat. Hacks tend to put more stress on the quads and less on the back and glutes. If a back injury prevents you from doing them I guess you have no choice but to use other leg exercises, don't forget leg presses, lunges and even leg extensions. |

if you suffer from a lower back injury, the hacks are the way to go.as far as giving you the power and strength like squats would, there is gonna be a difference, also hacks put pressure on the front of the knee cap, so as far as going heavy, i wouldnt go crazy right away.
