    Lift with your back not with your legs???

    Somebody please tell me are these exercies safe for your back and spine.
    Rack Deadlift
    Bent Row
    Stiff legged Deadlift

    I was always told to lift with your legs not with you back, because you might injure your back or something. When people do deadlifts it looks like they are going to snap their back. Can somebody clear things up for me??

    Absolutely, I used to have back problems and then I started doing deadlifts and my back is great.

    When doing them your back should never ever be rounded.

    When I do rack pulls the bar is touching my shins, back is up, facing forward and basically stand up using my legs mostly, and back, arms, etc

    Bent row is almost the same position, I just pull the weight into my upper abs.

    Stiff leg you want to stick your butt out, not bend your back over.

    that is the key, always keep your back straight and you should be fine.

    Would you say on the stiff leg deadlifts that your knees should be just slightly bent? (agree with the back being straight of course)

    I'll second that!! The reason I started lifting was on the advise of a Chiropractor. My back was terrible, I am a equipment operator and my back takes a beating, I used to always have problems. Now that I do deads/squats I am fine. I haven't seen my Doc for over a year now.
