Just yesterday I bought a set of straps from Kross Sports.
I love the sound of clanging iron in the morning. It sounds like victory...

My $5 Atlus leather wrist straps work just fine, purcahsed at The Sports Authority and there is no shipping charge. I've had them three years and they show no signs of wearing down.

I have never used straps. Someone told me early on that they are too much of a crutch. I am curious how many people out there use them and whether people think they make that big of a difference. I have noticed a lot more people using them at my gym.

I would agree that that is the best way to go, but my small frame could not possibly do 225 lb shrugs or SL deadlifts without the assistance of straps. I have managed to stop using them on all other back exercises though.

I think that they make a huge difference for grip strength. When deadlifting my grip gives out first, and since my trainer is a power lifter and she is trying her very best to talk me into doing power lifting instead of bodybuilding she won't let me use straps. You can't use them in a power lifting competition. I think for bodybuilders that aren't interested in their grip strength it is fine to use straps.

The ONLY time I use straps is for deadlifting. My forearms have really developed well by holding on for dear life to DBs and bars.

Rob, lol :] That made me laugh ;]

I dont understand: The straps let you lift heavier weights easier? Wouldnt that be detrimental since, well, you're lifting easier? :\

I do use straps, to help use for heavier lifts and also I think I have tendonitis or something inmy left bicep. I use the straps to relieve the stress off them..

I just started using straps for certain things.

    Shrugs & Deadlifts

Thats it, I have great forearm development because I never used straps before. I never work my forearms either because I don't need to. I had to do something for those 2 things above because it was getting to the point that I couldn't increase. I also refuse to use them for anything else. Just and aid, and shouldn't be used unless absolutely necessary IMO and I don't use a belt either

OK what is the point, I just don't understand. If you can't hold on to the weight with your hand strength, shouldn't you work on your hand strength?

I use lifting gloves that have wrist wraps, but nothing that attaches to the bar. It seems to me that these would make it easier to hold the weight.

But remember, I'm just a newbie...hence the name.

Use straps all you want ,if want to have a better back.Who cares? If you think you`ll get a weak grip by using them then work on your grip.We are bodybuilding here,if I can make my back huge and wide by handling more weight with straps I`m gonna.I also have used a weight belt for years ,I have great abs and a very strong lower back.Just because you wear a belt or use straps doesn`t mean you aren`t working the muscles in question.

Since we are BB's then we should be more concerned about building huge forearms as well as huge backs, it's not as much about the weight.
I stopped using straps all together, if I were to try for a max on deads I may use them but since doing this my forearms have grown and so has my grip. Now I am able to do shrugs with 335 for 10 reps no problem.
What helped me get to the point on not wearing them was to only use them on the last sets to failure, then little by little, not at all.
I also gave up gloves and went to chalk, much better feel.

Aint that the truth, Mudge. I thought these straps were of gold or something but they aren't any better than the ones at Sports Authority or K-Mart!

I have some leather straps, but I haven't used them for well over a year. They did help me at the time, but now that I dont use them, I dont need them There used to be a strap out there with a metal hook on it, now those I used to want, but again it just supports the weakness and makes it worse. The guys that are doing ultra-heavy deads though seem to say that there is a limit to grip strength, and thier numbes are higher with straps. I can believe that, I think, those guys lift enough that thier hands bleed sometimes.

I figure at the least, its less energy used and less bodyparts being strained, making it at least mentally easier on you.

Since we're on the topic of grip strength -

Does anyone have a link to those grip-training machines someone posted a while back? Gorilla Grip or something?
