Cardio, the too much question

I did a search on Cardio (too much and overtraining).....Couldn't quite find what I was looking for. Now I know someone recently said that you get accustomed to a certain amount of cardio so it is essentially not doing squat for you. Was trying to look for more information along those lines.

Here is the situation that my friend explained to me and wanted my feed back. I think she is doing way too much cardio. I've read something about cycling cardio but not sure on that. If you could please give me ideas, suggestions, possible reading material to point her to and for me also.

Quote:
For the last 10 months or so, I have gotten up every morning except Sundays and done cardio. I usually do a moderate cardio for 45 minutes to an hour M, W and F, and a HIIT cardio for at least 20 minutes, usually 30 on T,TH and Sat. I have done this even before I started BFL and my general feeling has been that if I do LESS than this amount, I will not make progress. You and I both know that this is not the "BFL" way, and I think Bill would tell me that doing less cardio would give my body more rest, etc. I also take two kickboxing classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays that are very intense cardio.

My question is...do you think I should try doing straight BFL, limiting my cardio to 3, 20 minute HIIT's or do you think my body is accustomed to the high level of cardio and will miss it and I will get fatter? (gawd forbid!)

I have read so many different oppinions on this that is has only caused me to be more confused! The trainer that I see says cardio, cardio, cardio, and keeps telling me it just takes time. But I was thinking about what I was doing this time last year, which was training for the Avon 3-Day Breast cancer walk. It was 60 miles in 3 days and I trained a LOT! I walked about 50 miles a week, and during that time I PUT ON WEIGHT!!!! I trained for three months AND I was weight training, and I still gained weight. So maybe my adherance to cardio is misdirected.
I've been experiencing the same varying opinions on the amount of cardio. I prefer to keep my cardio to a minimum (mostly because of time). Maybe this should be evaluated more on how much muscle she gained during the last 12 weeks or so.....

Thanks for any info all.....

I was doing five days of cardio and I found it made less difference than when I limit my cardio to three days (30-45, min- HIIT-usually a spin class) and make sure my diet is really clean (or should I say really clean for me, since it probably isnt as nearly as clean as some of you hardcore psychos!).

Because I'm not on an Atkins Diet nor would I ever do one. I'm a BB not a dieter! - Jodi
